ZAPOTEC   Monte Alban         Mound # "J"   or   Main Observatory    Close-up   Oaxaca Valley; Mexico.

Most interewsting as it is different in shape and structure that the rest of the ancient city.

In plan it resembles and arrow point  with the stairways as its base,it is crossed by a vaulted tunnel suggesting it may have
been used as an observatory. Carved slabs found outsidewith glyphs and inverted heads suggest the structure may have
been a triumphal record of conquered settlements under Monte Alban Period II.
